Itinerary
Day 1 - Arrival in Almaty and City Heritage
Arrive at Almaty International Airport and transfer to your hotel in the city center.
Visit the Zenkov Cathedral in Panfilov Park, one of the tallest wooden buildings in the world, built without a single metal nail.
Explore the Green Bazaar to sample local delicacies like “kurt” (salty cheese) and find authentic Kazakh souvenirs.
Day 2 - Medeu Gorge and Shymbulak Mountain Resort
Travel to the Medeu Gorge to see the world’s highest Olympic-sized ice skating rink.
Take a series of cable cars up to the Shymbulak Ski Resort at 3,200 meters for breathtaking views of the Trans-Ili Alatau mountains.
Enjoy lunch at a mountain cafe before returning to the city to visit the First President’s Park for a scenic evening walk.
Day 3 - Charyn Canyon: The Valley of Castles
Set out on a day trip to Charyn Canyon, often referred to as the “Grand Canyon’s little brother.”
Hike down into the “Valley of Castles” to see the dramatic, towering red sandstone formations.
Walk along the Charyn River at the bottom of the canyon and enjoy a picnic lunch in the shade of the rock walls.
Day 4 - Kolsai Lakes and Kaindy Lake
Travel further east to the Kolsai Lakes, often called the “Pearls of the Northern Tien Shan.”
Take a boat ride or hike around the first Kolsai Lake, which is surrounded by dense pine forests and mountain peaks.
Visit the nearby Kaindy Lake to see the famous “sunken forest,” where dried spruce trees emerge from the turquoise water.
Day 5 - Big Almaty Lake and Kok Tobe Hill
Drive up to Big Almaty Lake, a high-altitude alpine reservoir known for its changing colors from turquoise to emerald.
Stop at the Falcon Farm “Sunkar” to see a traditional bird of prey demonstration featuring eagles and hawks.
Take the cable car to the top of Kok Tobe Hill in the evening for a panoramic view of Almaty’s city lights and a visit to the Beatles monument.
Day 6 - Cultural Museums and Departure
Visit the Central State Museum of Kazakhstan to learn about the country’s history from the Bronze Age to the modern era.
Spend your final afternoon at the Mega Center Almaty for some modern shopping and a final taste of local “beshbarmak” or “baursak.”
Transfer to the airport for your departure flight.
